                                                                                 Colona is the third largest City in Henry County with a population of 5173.  Located on Highway 84 with easy access to I-80, I-74 & US HWY 6.        

We are a community of old friends welcoming new friends that choose to build in Colona. We look forward to meeting you!

The City of Colona has three TIF districts.  The maps for these areas can be accessed by clicking on the NEWS section. Click on the map you want, when the email appears click on the attachment to open the map. 

If you see a street light out in your area call us at City Hall and we will call it in to Mid American Energy.

CHECK THIS OUT... 

  • On May 17th the GFWC IL Colona Area Junior Women's Club will hold a COUNTRY STYLE BAKE SALE from 10 - 2 at the Library.  This is the last round up for funding the Library fence project.  So mosey on down to the Library for rootin-tootin great pies, home-made breads and cookies...before those rustlers grab it all up...cowboy hats are welcome but park the horse outside !!
  • They will again hold the 2nd Annual Hennepin Hustle 5K Run & Fun Walk on Sunday, June 29,2008 @ 8:00 a.m. see NEWS section for details.
  • The City of Colona sales tax will raise to 6.75% on January 1, 2008.
  • Do you need to register to vote?  Stop in City Hall and see us.
  • Our garbage company will not take construction materials or car parts please do not put them out for pick up.  They will take paint if you take the lid off and let it dry first.
  • PET TAGS are due each year May 1.  If you have a dog or cat they need pet tags through the City of Colona.  Just bring in a copy of the current rabies vaccination to the Police Department, the tags are only $3.00 each.

YARD WASTE DISPOSAL

RECYCLING

We have a special site set up for recycling.  Please see the FAQ section for what items we accept and where to bring them.

OIL RECYCLING

They will accept oil on Saturday mornings when the attendant is there 9:00 a.m.-Noon.

They will contact all the utilities for you so they can each locate the lines they have near your project.  So you will not hit power, gas or water lines.

The City Hall is located at 100 E 9th Avenue.  You may mail any correspondence to them at P O Box 170, Colona IL  61241.  The Clerk's office is open 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

Police Dept.- In an emergency dial  911 The police department office is located at 215 1st Street, Colona IL. 

Non emergency 792-1511, 792-0626 or 949-3091  

24 hour non-emergency 755-8747 and 937-3911

The numbers with a 949 prefix are for the benefit of our customers who are with the Geneseo telephone company.

Check out the business directory in the TOURISM section.  We have a list of local businesses complete with phone numbers.  You will want to print that out and keep it by your phone as your personal Colona Business phone book. When you patronize local businesses you not only support your neighbors in their business ventures your sales tax dollars come back to this community as well.  So do us ALL a favor and buy what you can in Colona.

Recycle...Recycle...Recycle...Recycle...

The Colona Library is collecting aluminum cans and the money from this collection will go toward programs at the library.  So save your cans for a good cause.  Cans may be in bags and brought to the library. Thank you for helping them provide quality programs.  We have a link to the library website on our HELPFUL LINKS section to the left.

If you want a list of the area churches or service organizations that you can join (Lions/Lioness etc.) you can click on the strip on the right hand side of this page and we will email a form to you.  We know our residents lead busy lives and this may be an easier way for you to get that information.  A variety of forms are available.

CITY PARKS ...The City has seven parks for your enjoyment. All parks close at 10:00 p.m. Shelters are available to rent call City Hall for details. (309) 792-0571 or (309) 949-3140. A complete list of parks is available through Online Forms section at the right.

HOUSE NUMBERS... Per city ordinance each resident is required to have your house numbers on the front of your house at least 3 inches tall.  Having house numbers prominently displayed aids emergency personnel during 911 calls.

VOTER REGISTRATION... You can register to vote at any time at city hall during regular business hours.  It is not necessary to register every time you vote.  You only need to re register if you have moved or changed your name our office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for your convenience.

The city makes every effort to keep it's citizens informed through this website, newspaper articles, posting on a regular basis on Cable Channel 18 and our three marquees.  Check these regularly to keep yourselves up on the latest city news.  You are also invited to attend the city council meetings held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. If you cannot attend you can read the minutes by clicking on that section at the left.  Meeting dates and times can be found on the EVENTS CALENDAR page.
